Cornflower has a long history of medicinal use. The flowers are traditionally used in European phytotherapy to treat minor eye inflammations and conjunctivitis, and have a calming effect. Their main composition includes polysaccharides - mainly galacturonic acid, arabinose, glucose, rhamnose and galactose. Its extract is anti-itching, antitussive, astringent, mildly diuretic, mildly cleansing and tonic. The infusion can be used to treat dropsy, constipation, or as a mouthwash for ulcers and bleeding gums. This infusion is used as a tonic and stimulant, improving digestion and possibly supporting the liver, as well as improving resistance to infection. It works especially well for toning dry skin that has lost its vitality.
