The name camomile is of Greek origin, a combination of the words chamos (earth) and milos (apple). It was already used for healing purposes in ancient times. The Egyptians considered the plant a gift from the Sun God, and used it as an embalming oil for mummifications and as a base for cosmetics. The Romans recommended it for making drinks, while the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates recommended it to relieve menstrual cramps and treat blood clots. In the Middle Ages, alchemists successfully produced essential oil from it by distillation.
As early as 1578, the kolozsvári Herbarium c. it is also mentioned in the book as a medicinal plant. According to Ayurveda, blue chamomile is known for reducing Pitta and is considered good for all doshas or body types.
