It has an important role in the Ayurvedic healing tradition, the ancient Greeks considered it the plant of kings, hence its name. Its astonishing array of health-promoting, disease-preventing, and life-prolonging properties was already described in Antiquity, and in the last few decades, the researches of modern sciences have confirmed many of its beneficial properties. Tulsi leaves contain a light yellow essential oil that is used against insects and bacteria. The main components of this oil are eugenol, eugenol methyl ether and carvacrol.
The juice of the leaves and the decoction, which is called jushanda, relieve bronchitis inflammation and cough. Applied topically, it eliminates eczema and helps with other skin diseases. Its oil is also used as ear drops in case of pain. The seeds are used to treat urinary problems. They attribute to it a value that increases sexual desire. Scientific experiments have proven that tulsi reduces stress, relieves inflammation, reduces radiation, prevents stomach ulcers, reduces fever and colds, and improves digestion. It is especially effective for the heart, liver and lungs.

Its main features in brief:

  • Antidepressant, inhibits the excessive release of cortisol, i.e. reduces anxiety,
