Jasminum grandiflorum, commonly known as Spanish or Catalan jasmine, has been cultivated in France for centuries for perfume production and remains a vital part of the perfume industry for the French.In the 1400s, the kings of Afghanistan, Nepal and Persia planted jasmine around their residences. The emperors of China's Sung Dynasty (960-1279 AD) found the scent of jasmine extremely enjoyable. Chinese herbalists continue to use jasmine to treat headaches, insomnia, and bone pain. To the Chinese, jasmine represents feminine kindness, grace and delicacy, and is a means of attracting wealth and romance.
