Palo Santo

Place of origin: Peru
Cultivation: wild
The name comes from Spanish and means "Holy Tree". It refers to an ancient healing practice, which is built in the ceremonial traditions of the knowledge of South and Mesoamerican shamans or healers "curanderos". It reminds us of a universal mystery expressed in a paradoxical symbol: the encounter with pain or the fear of death is a secret key that opens the door to a possible resurrection. Lying untouched on the ground, it matures for up to 10 years, until it develops its precious resin and characteristic scent through a special biochemical metamorphosis.
From a medical point of view, Palo Santo is an invaluable disinfectant, thanks to certain chemical compounds such as limonene, turpentine, menthofuran, carvone, etc., which has proven its usefulness in the treatment of various skin diseases and injuries.
